Top Interior Design Trends for 2026

I am not always one to follow a trend. But it is nice to know what the forecast holds, and what maybe new in the world of Interior Decorating.

The Colour Choice 2026 for example with Pantone is Cloud Dancer, which has brought some controversy. Many saying it’s not a colour. For me I think it's lovely. Cloud Dancer will make for a beautiful colour choice in client homes. Very easy to work with and back to basics. Allowing you to work along with earthy tones which are still so popular.

You will be able to incorporate soft terracotta and muted greens to create a feeling of calmness and harmony. Along with creamy beiges for relaxation.

More fun colours to bring into your home are the neutral pastels like soft pink and green.

Dulux’s Colour Choices are Coffee Dust, Misty Grape, Baked Clay and Deep Aqua. I would consider using them in moderation such as colour in feature furniture pieces or feature wallpaper. But Dulux believe their blended creams, warm earthy tones and golden browns will still feature in 2026.

2026 is encouraging people to be bolder with patterns and layering. Something I thought had passed, but they seem to be bringing back the look of Laura Ashley and Biggie Best.

Layering Stripes with Florals, a lot or mixing and matching, Tablecloths, Cushions, Lampshades, Throws. It's about Fabric and Wallpaper. Again, I wouldn’t want you to overwhelm your space and home, so consider moderation. I know moderation is not the look but not everyone can go back to a lot of trims, frills, floral on top of floral. Remember it’s a trend and it will pass. Layering colours and patterns is not the only interior idea being layered. Designers and Decorators for on trend are encouraging you to bring your vintage furniture pieces into the room. It's about bringing your personality back into the home and not have an overly curated designer living space. Its about comfortable and inviting living.

I noticed last year that there was a movement away from open plan living and move towards individual spaces again. Living rooms are becoming their own spaces again, rather than an extension of the kitchen. If you are unable to use a builder to build those walls, you can be creative using Curtains and Furniture to bring back the individuality of individual spaces.

There are more new rooms within the home now ie Media Rooms, Sewing - Craft Rooms, Study - Office, Reading - Libraries, Wellness - Gyms and also Mud Rooms - Laundry - Dog Baths. Homes are evolving and adapting.

As we know Engineered Stone is a no. But there are alternatives for your bench tops such as Laminex, Stainless Steel and Wood. You will see a lot more of Stainless Steel and Wood this year.

Boucle and Linens are still here. But not to be used just by themselves. Remember if you want to be on trend for 2026 “Layering” is key. Mix and Match with other textiles, colours and patterns. Use Throws and Cushions to help.

Lastly, as we move forward, Sustainable Practices are here to stay. You don’t always have to buy that environmentally vegan-friendly couch. Consider re upholstering your existing couch. If it has good bones and the style still suits you and your home, recover it. Focus on pieces that mean something to you and work around them. You will be on trend for 2026.
